Niðavellir Shipyard

The Nidavellir Shipyard is a large UCM Shipyard hidden far away from any planetary system.
After the scattering of humans after the first Scourge attack many ships used their ftl drives and made an random Foldspace jump just to get away. Many of this ships found themselves alone in the dark, to close to a star or a black hole and perished but some made it to an empty place in space. And that’s how the Nidavellir belt was discovered. A collection of large rocks, asteroids in different sizes and collection of dust and sand. Exactly how this place come to be, far from any sun, placed in between systems is not known. It is believed it was created after an extremely unlikely collision of two larger celestial body, with no stronger gravity pull in the vicinity this collection of minerals and rocks have held together by their own combined pull of each other. The scatter of large rocks and the natural background radioactivity have created a hiding place. After the survivors made contact with the now formed UCM the area have been put to good use.

Named after the Norse mythology Nidavellir, the world of the dwarves, for its rich mineral and metal resources. Perfectly for foundries and a large shipyard complex.

This is the place to produce ships...

Grebbestad class Clipper ship: Tutorial

I had such great response on the Clipper ship I thought I should do a small tutorial.

First of you will need the engine/top part from an New Orlean and the wings from an Toulon.

I put the wing parts upside down and glued them together.

First cut, a straight line.

Next step was to cut of and clean up what will be the front of my ship.

Next was to cut just in front of the engine.

I removed the small part from the engine that use to be connected to the top of the New Orleans part.
I removed the thinner part that regularly have the gun underneath on the Frigates.

Now we have all the parts cleaned up and ready.

And glued together it should look like this.

I might have gotten a bit carried away as I now have three more clipper ships..

And for those wondering about the size comparison with the Santiago class Corvete, here you go.

Underneath here is the first clipper ship I built: https://nidavellir-shipyard.blogspot.com/2019/02/grebbestad-class-clipper-ship.html

Grebbestad class Clipper ship

I converted this small ship from leftover bits.
The idea is a fast smaller ship for transporting messages, data, personal or wips.

It only got weaponry for basic self protection and is not meant to be sent against the enemies.

The larger blue areas on the top is meant to represent some kind of observation decks to offer a good view for travellers during space flight.

The name and the class type may be changed later on but it seems somewhat appropriate.

She was really fun to paint and build.

She is meant for some kind of special scenarios in the future.
For stats I think about giving her the stats of the Santiago class Corvette but with with less or no weapons. Maybe exchange the Stingray missile bays of the Santiago for the less potent Barracuda missile bay( with only two attacks).
Maybe losing atmospheric rule that the corvette have also?

The Grebbestad class is seen here with a much larger and heavier armoured and armed Seattle class Fleet Carrier for size.

Here she is before painting.

A tutorial on how do make one can be found here: https://nidavellir-shipyard.blogspot.com/2019/02/grebbestad-class-clipper-ship-tutorial.html
